It looks small which makes me think it maybe a lady's shoe button. If its larger then it looks maybe a sweater button many were made of metal up until WW II

Thank you, I had not been able too find any information yet, It is the most interesting thing I have found so far, this is only my first year metal detecting and so far I haven't found to much. I will post a picture next to a coin next time so the size is detectable. Its slightly bigger than a penny. Ben

I found out from a local college this button dates between 1780 and 1820.
