I found this button at an old blacksmith shop along the california trail. It has orange colour stamped on the back, I have checked every site I could find, I found buttons that looked the same on the back but can not match the front. Any help would be great. This is my first button find I would really like to know about this button thanks

Trapperman, any chance you can let us know what the lettering/designs are on the backside?

BA, on the top it says orange then on both side there is a star then a diamond then the word colour. it is really hard to read I had to use a magnifying glass to figure it out. I still wasn't sure until I found a confedarate button that had the same lettering on it.
Figured it out. I emailed a picture to golden age buttons in england, the reply back was. It is a golden aged gilted button made between 1830 and 1850. It was made for aristocrats. Pretty cool that we figured it out, I just wished the button could talk so I could figure out how it got to nevada. Thanks for your help guys

Thanks for letting us know the answer.   Pretty neat that it dates back to that period.  Just think, it could have come from a second son that was out to win his fortune during the gold rush.

Please let me know what you find out about that button, I dug a button two weeks ago with the same words on it, except mine was punched in the center and doesnt look as pretty as yours! I dug mine here in southern Indiana in a 1800's homestead area!

EW the only thing he didn't figure out is how it got from England to California, and the most likely scenario is it came during the Gold Rush:

"Figured it out. I emailed a picture to golden age buttons in england, the reply back was. It is a golden aged gilted button made between 1830 and 1850. It was made for aristocrats.
