i wounder what a payroll of 5,000.00 dollars in American gold would look like?i mean dimensions of the box it was in.the weight.and i wounder what that would be worth at today's gold rates.i think it would be allot of 20.00 gold coins and maybe some silver too.i may be on to something here.you can google great hinkley fire of 1894.most accounts of the story don't mention the gold payroll that was never recovered from the sawmill.i did a little research since i only live 10 miles from there and confirmed it was never recovered.

Sounds like you should get your butt over there and start digging for that  sweet sweet gold...although if i had found that gold I wouldnt be reporting it to anyone so the fact that its never been reported as found may not mean much.

very true indeed.but i guess if every treasure was reported found, nobody would be hunting.i need to do more research before i commit to this but i have some pretty good clues allready.one thing for sure,i think that would be a small fortune today.

That's assuming they were all $20 gold pieces....given wages, I'd expect to see a lot of $10, $5, and $1 pieces mixed in with those twenties....but you're still talking a manageable weight.
