This detector can find objects at depths of 5-150 meters in normal conditions and can actually work to 3000 meters.

Yes, you read that right. It uses a technique called Time Domain Reflectometry, normally used to find faults in wires of a great length. I have used one for finding faults in transmission feed lines of 300 feet. Perfectly found an open in the wire.

Cool Beans.   I've actually used and operated  optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) and the older  time-domain reflectometry (TDR) on wire lines.   Crazy how accurate they can be.  You can visualize every Splice on the wire or Fiber up to the fault.    You could locate the Fault location within just a meter or so most times.  Using the Old School wire TDR's we were doing good getting within 100ft of the fault.  The fancy ones had a CRT you could visualize.  Older then that nothing but a Analog Meter you watched TWITCH .  LOL    

Guess this is pretty much  a Ground Penetrating Radar  (GPR) ?

Much lower frequency than GPR, Homie. But 3000 meters is more than a mile down.

   Yep, I guess.  Didn't see any information on the Operating Freq s , Technique or Modulation , anything at all.    Wonder how defined or resolution it can deal with.  Can you see target Shape a bit ?  one can see a target ?  They're sorta tight lipped in that article.  Not so much info.  T/R type set up?  Spacial Separation between Tx and Rx ?  Still cool.  One of those things that if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it? LOL

Pretty impressive specs on that gear.  I've used TDR on RF transmission lines. The earlier ones were fairly crude and not very accurate. I had a Anritzu unit that could do a inch or so at 2Ghz over 400 feet or so. The newer ones have some built in analysis to help interpret the waveform. The 60 hz 345KV power lines in CT have high speed fault and impedance protective relays that do not use TDR but measure the instantaneous fault current (anticipating the CT saturation errors), voltage, and voltage/current vectors and "yak" to distant relays over fiber, initiate trips, reclosures, and log the fault data. Then sends the fault location to the engineers or substation electricians. I've seen those relays pick the phase, type of fault. and show the location right within several yards on a 23 mile line!

Whoops... getting off the subject... Like Homefire mentioned, wonder what the wave front media is.... maybe low frequency pulsed??  

Speakin of TDR.  I had several units that were used to send a pulse from the street connection underground to the customers house..... Used to detect crooks splicing in to under ground cabling.

Yep, TDR can see any bumps or ripples in the road.  Kinda Crazy thinking about what's really taking place with one.  Like Ripples in a pond only traveling down a wire or fiber.  The ones Mud is talking about I've never even seen.  All Automated BOT kinda stuff.
