Go Up Go Down

When I was a young man of 15, I am 69 now, I had a girlfriend whose grandfather told me this story.  A neighbor had two daughters, and his wife had died. He came by and pulled out a Prince Albert tobacco can and it was filled with $20 gold pieces, which he proceeded to place end to end on a fish pond. He went all the way around in a complete circle.  He said he had more and it was hidden and if his daughters could find it they could have it.  The grandfather said the old man was quite drunk and picked up his coins and went home.  He was drunk and raped both girls, and then passed out.  The oldest girl took a hatchet to him, killed him. The law did nothing to the young lady and she lost her mind. The money was never found. I knew the lady and she worked for my mother keeping house and she was not working with a full load of bricks in her wheelburro.  The property where this is located is now selling for $125,000 an acre with big expensive homes.  The cache is probably under a street or a house foundation.

Wow!  There's just enough information to make the story believable and verifiable but not enough to give away important leads.  Very well told.  I hope you're biding your time so you can check once the street or building foundation ceases to be an obstacle (at least for a short time).    This is certainly the kind of story that would make me sit up and take notice and start asking discrete questions.

Thanks for sharing,

BA

Amen It is more than verifiable. It was common knowlade that this happened.  If you can read German, I am sure that it was in the New Braunfels news paper which at that time was in German. The girls grandpaw was a straight shooter. He went and stayed with the Seminole Indians in Florida when they were still bad boys, and took 16 mm movies of them which I watched many a time.  Smiley

Pops, somehow I figured you'd tell me I could find it in the New Braunfels' papers.   Not many people outside the immediate area know that the New Braunfels Zeitung was published in German until the mid-twentieth century.   Fortunately, I do read German (not quite as well as I did when I was in my early 20's but I've retained the reading ability more than I have the speaking).   When I was growing up in San Antonio, the dad of one of my friends used to talk about how his Mom had to go to school with him (the dad) for the first few weeks because all they spoke at the homestead was German and the class was all in English.

Like I said, I hope you're keeping an eye on the target area in case the opportunity ever arises.

BA

We would have to stomp thou some pretty expensive realestate to find it. Who would have thought 40 years ago that a $1000 an acre property would bring $125,00 a acre. I will keep my eye open and if you ever get to New Braunfels, look me up and we can  go for coffee or something.  Do you go to Wurstfest? I perform there? /b]
