Have you ever found a cache? What was in the cache? How deep was the cache? What type of research was involved? How long did it take to make the recovery?

It's not unusual but books have been written about that sort of thing. It's also not an easy thing to tell about because there's always the chance that a cache you have discovered could be claimed by someone who believes they are the rightful owner. Cache hunters like to keep things close to the chest rather than blather them out in public forums.

Here's one I don't mind sharing. A friend called because his Granddad has passed away. Each year, every child would receive an old silver dollar from Granddad on his or her birthday. Nobody thought to ask him where he kept them. I helped him find 12 mason jars full of silver dollars and 9 jars full of gold coins buried on their property. As a reward for my help, he gave me one jar of the gold coins. Later that same year, we found a shoebox full of Confederate banknotes in the attic in a trunk containing Civil War uniforms from both sides. Being a dyed-in-the-wool Yankee, he wanted to burn them but instead allowed me to just haul them off to "the dump." I dumped them into my own shoebox in better condition. I took him and the family out to dinner as silent thanks for his contribution.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
