An acquittance of me, when she knew I had a metal detector and could find hidden treasures, asked me if I wanted to go with her on a property she inherited, where no one lived, where her uncle lived and she was almost sure he hid a treasure of gold coins which was still there. This guy was a bar owner and was not paying his taxes, so he was hiding a lot of his income, duly changed in gold coins. She asked me if I could search for that treasure and find it. Oh boy I was eager to get there...
I took my Bounty Hunter Quick Draw 2 detector and off we go fro my first cache hunt.
It was in a remote mountain village, the house was quite small, but had an orchard and a barn where horses used to stay and a hay stack.
I detected in all rooms, the walls the wooden dusty floor, but found nothing. I went in the barn, but there were a lot of rusty nails on the floor, not easy to go through these. I detected the orchard, around the house but found nothing. I was quite disappointed. The lady too, I must admit. I dared not tear walls down without clear evidence.
The treasure is maybe still there, because I blame my detector and my skills. Meanwhile I made a PI detector, but never went back.
I would like to ask those of you with more experience, what detecting material should I use in such a situation and what search strategy should I adopt?
