I am working a lead in Hill county Texas, and am having trouble pinpointing where the old farm is.  I have a survey from the 1940's and the local community.  Does anyone have any suggestions on tying the old survey to current land ownership records?  I have been to the courthouse and any doing a deed search, but haven't come up with anything yet.
And oh yes, if only there was more time.... Karl Von Mueller said in treasure Hunter's Manual #6, "hunt close to home"  boy is that true!

i totally agree with the hunt close to home!
sounds like you are on the right track doing a deed search.
have you verified that the landowner existed during the time frames of the story yet?
i usually start there, because names will tend to get twisted a little, for example, if its a "John Smith"
i will search the some of the ancestry, and other sites for John, Jon, Jonathan, etc, Smith, Smythe, etc.. in that county during the time frame, death birth records and all
once i have found a close match or two, then searching under those names for deeds, etc.
sometimes they wont be under his or her given name, but a trust or something from either side of his or her family, so checking into wife's name, birth and married or mothers name helps too.

some of the counties will have that info via the web, but if youre local to it, even better to do the courthouse searches.

hope that helps, you may be well beyond my initial steps above
keep us posted!

I have an Idea , try talking to some old timers. They may be able to give you some Ideas, & even add a couple of new leads to add the list    Cool

Thanks guys.  I had a friend do a genealogical search to verify the players 1st thing.  Which is another good way to find information and leads.  There is a group that meets at our local library every month to discuss their genealogy, I of course am just interested in local history stories ( wink, wink).

Don't know if this helps but it has entire family one it.  I live in TX so I would love to help.
