This site has a large variety of lost treasure tales - some for states, some just in general. Sue

There's the story of a copper mine in the Ozarks which is a bunch of hooey. The geology in this state doesn't support a mine in that area.
Some of the other stories are very interesting. Thanks..

Steve, I saw that, too. Copper is in Wisc and areas N, but Ozarks? I'm glad you agree that it's hooey as I certainly thought so. Some copper may have been traded with natives in the area, but I think that's the only way it could be there. Sue

Sue- you'd be surprised how many so called "treasure" stories would be shot full of holes if people would just do the research in the first place.

I've often wondered the actual "source" for a lot of them. Plus you never know if they've been found. Sue

Sue-  Magic tricks aren't really magic once you know how it was done and they're nothing but deceptive sleight of hand. I try and use that analogy to explain some of these stories. Perhaps someone highgraded a mine from some other place or something like that and stored it in the area- hence the orgin of a mine. I do know the geology of the area itself will not support an actual mine. Besides- $50,000 was a lot of money back then and while I don't know how much copper was selling for at the time- I do know there must have been tons and tons of it and such a mine would have been easy to find - given the amount of supposed production.

Sleuthing around in genealogy sites looking for treasure tales that aren't just out there with all the others, I came upon this one for Oklahoma. Maybe it's a common one, but I don't remember it. I liked the part about the "mineral rod" that must have been looking for gas instead gold. Sue
