The information I found was about an old copper mine that was sealed up a left. So far no one has found this mine. I talked to local people they know about the mine, but it is on private property and the owner will not even let people pick black berries or hunt in other words he does not want people on his land. He hasn't looked for the mine he don't need the money.

Thats the way it goes........................Doug

Doug, that stinks - some people seem to enjoy the "power of NO". How someone can not even be curious is beyond me. Legends of America site has been linked earlier before you joined up. Don't know whether you've seen it or not, but here's the Missouri section. Maybe you'll find something there and have better luck. Sue

Hey,

I found the 'Dutchman' on a different part of this site. It's rare to find skeptics of the Superstition treasure. My Dad thought it was...sacriligeous of me to question it. As I grew into a man, in the sixties, I actually started thinking instead of reading J. Frank Dobie.

It only took a few days in the dead files of Phoenix's newspapers and the county courthouse to come to the conclusion that the 'Dutchman' did not exist untill he spent a night in a tree, in a storm and caught pneumonia and died.

After his death, the woman who was giving him room/board (been so long ago since I jerked around with this I don't remember her name) found, under his bed, a box of seriously high grade ore. Instantly, the woman and her son were selling maps and giving guided tours.  This is newspaper record, on the spot/at the time!!! I spent many hours giving myself a headache peering at microfilm. The man had NO history before he died....Actually he did. There is (you can still go look at it, I'm sure) a contract between Waltz/Waltzer? and the woman that reads; (paraphrasing) If he could live with her and her son untill he died, she would receive the deed to a really crappy town lot in Phoenix....This, so called 'Lost Mine' owner lived out his last days in a tiny room with a tiny cot over a big box of ore.

Then we get J. Frank Dobie and others who figure the story would sell better if the Peraltas were...... Aw, to heck with it. The records are still there. I'm not talking 'waybills' here. It's in newspaper records and county courthouse records. Anyone can stare at the microfilm and get their own headache. You wouldn't believe how angry my Dad was with me for hunting for the truth.

As for the Superstitions being pretty.....I guess you had to live there. My old man finally admitted that where we lived was a lot like Hell. 'All it needs is a little more water and a better grade of people.'. I'd rather bleed than sweat, so I moved to Oregon and search for things that can be documented.

Bud

I LIVE IN REALITY TOO. YOU GOT A DOWN TO EARTH FLOW WHICH I WHOLE HEARTEDLY BELIEVE.SUPERSTION IS ZACLY WHAT IT SAYS..SUPERSTITION.THAT LIL OLD LADY & HER PUNK SON PROBLY DID PRETTY GOOD SELLIN THEM JUNK MAPS. Grin
