Mattress Cache

Well my dad told me this when he was alive. His Dad and Mom werent well to do or even near it. They worked hard for everything they had. OK. This took place in the 1940s. They would hide every bit of money that they could afford too in the mattress of their bed. This was paper money. My dad was around 10 at the time. His brother, my uncle was snooping around in their bedroom and somehow came across this money and never said a word about it. One day my uncle and dad were at school and dad noticed alot of the kids had money in their pockets and there was a crowd around my uncle. HE WAS PASSING THE MONEY OUT!. Dad ran home to get his mom and told her what my uncle was up too. Grandma checked the mattress and sure as hell all the money was gone. She ran to the school and scooped my uncle up and made him tell her where the money went. With the help from the teachers they got most of it back. The teachers sent notes home explaining what had happened and asked if they found money on their kids to please bring it back to my Grandparents or the school. They got every dollar back. Dad said there was alittle over a thousand dollars in the mattress.      Thank You for letting me share this story with you. It always brings a smile to my face and I get thinking about my Dad too.    Steve

Mattress Cache a lot of people back then didnt trust the banks, buried money out in the yard or behind a false wall in a house etc.
I found a whole collection of WW II British edition yank magazines hidden in an old abandon house behind a false wall panel,
they still had the pin up girl posters in them to include Lucile Ball, Eva Gardner etc.

LeRoy it's a cool story and one that im sure will be passed from generation to generation.

It would be nice to think people would return it though.
