I spend several weeks a year on Padre and have since 1973. With some research you can make some money there just stay away from the National Park I have seen the rangers confiscate metal detectors trucks campers they don't play.

Darn! And to think I had a friend that owned a business and land there years ago. He was definitely the t-hunter type, and would have loved to look for this.

What a story!  Has anyone tried to verify the various "facts?" Like, during the civil war, did a hurricane hit Padre? Land records for a John Singer, or other Singers? Surely the land where the suspected loot was would have been kept in the family for as long as possible, just in case.

It doesn't seem like someone would leave a chest of loot buried in the sand, then move away and leave it for a few years. I wonder where they lived on the mainland?

Yeah the facts have been checked and recheck 100's or times. The thing is there is lots more money to be made on Padre then just this one trust me. Plus there are several reports that it was found in the 1930's.
