you might look into a thermal camera  cool spots may indicate  caves  during the day or warm spots at night if they(caves) are warmer than outside air  just a idea  may be too expensive though  good luck and be careful! josey

Go Up Go Down

 Hello every one,
Well, the plan was to bring a thermal cam and scan the area at night and noon. and as a second plan I got the infrared cannon dslr modified cam that according to a British treasure hunter helped him find the signature of metals like gold and silver, which i experimented before going and got results in 40% of the controlled tests.
The thermal cam was a flir i9 which did not help at all because of the Zero zooming and it's limitation, You can use it for home energy audit and that is about it.
After the disappointment with the flir cam, we went into the classic search which revieled some stone artifacts and nothing else, I decided to use the cannon cam, so i took like 30 pictures as a 360 degree panoramic images, which needed to be processed using a computer software, so there was no result at that time.
Big disappointment with the $2000 flir, BUT... After filtering the cannon pictures i was shocked, the 360 degree pictures showed a huge signature "reddish yellowish lights from one area of 300 feet or so out of the thousands of yards that are in the picture.
Planning to go again, so i sold the flir,  purchased a Thermal Eye 250D25 cam that is used by the boarder patrol to detect you know who, the cost is $5000, did some controlled tests , got great results, so will go again in 2 months.
I didn't want to give any feedback till i come back.
BTW, The Bats Idea is brilliant, Thanks guys for all the good advice, will keep you posted.

You did good, albedran. You are making headway, although it is expensive. Hope your new heat sig device works like a charm in the field. Nice to know you haven't given up. Thanks for the update. Keeps our blood flowing in anticipation.

Hello Forum
, the bat idea  is true ,because several years ago  i search  for caves  in the pacific coast of Mexico  but  in my case  not  with VISUAL method  but  SOUND method , using a receiver  to heard  the ultrasonic  sound that bats transmit ... also in the day  when then are sleep in cave  with a good piezo sensor hyper directional  you can detect  this sounding  at least  100 to 200 feets aways  and found caves ...see in the net  and  you will find  this receivers  ..they are many amateurs  for bat research ....
Alexis.

Just a paranoid thought that keeps popping in my head. With everything we know about claim jumpers, internet hackers, facebook/iphones/etc tracking users, Victorio Peak, etc., I would be reluctant to use any form of GPS within a hundred miles or more of anything I found. You can bet the gov. or someone is tracking your whereabouts and we know some entities or people would not hesitate to go see why you kept going out into the wilderness or wherever. I know it is hard to refind areas sometimes without it, but, lose it or lose it to some snoop?

Detecting you are quite correct about being tracked at the Victoria Peak area. I worked on White Sands for years and you go  Shocked NOWHERE without being tracked. I have been to the Peak  Wise many times and have found many old mining relects of no value. the area is dangerous as are many mining areas. Many have unseen open pits that you could fall into etc. Treasure legends abound in the area.

Go Up Go Down

just started to read this thread.. and had an idea .. what your looking for is the cave(s) in that area that are covered by rocks boulders etc .. then the piece of equipment you need is (if not already mentioned) is a ground penetrating radar .. the sort you drag over the ground in a pattern to find the depth of hidden voids etc under ground .. how well they work in rocky areas i'm not sre .. but it might be worth looking into Cool
