Hi Rob.  You may have already found what you were after - Civil War weapons caches but I believe there were many such caches stashed all across the country by the secret Confederate organization, the Knights of the Golden Circle, for future use in a second Civil War that never happened.  While researching for our work on Bloody Bill Anderson and the KGC, I found many official records that seem to indicate large amounts of these weapons in the hands of KGC members.  You and others can view these records at the link below.  I suggest you do a "Simple Search" of the records for keywords [Knights of the Golden Circle] in order to locate these references.

Hello Rob,
There are probably several southern weapons cache still buried. Matter of fact, I am presently working on one such cache. I have done about all the research I can do for now and I know the general area. This cache has weapons and gold. The problems left are, deciding whether to build and use the fluxgate mag or try to use a two box detector. Also, part of the area was just purchased by the state for a state natural area a few months back. I'm not sure if it includes the area were the cache was deposited or not. I hope that I haven't waited to long. The cache was put in a cave and blasted shut at the mouth by a confederate captain and his troops when they got word that Chattanooga had been taken by the north. This one was not associated with the KGC as far as my research revealed, but it was huge. Enough small arms still boxed in the case, several cannons and enough gold to start a new insurrection after the war was over. I am going to wait till the winter months to start my search, when the vegetation dies down and the snakes stop crawling. The place has very rugged terrain with sink holes, huge boulders, lots of rattle snakes, scorpions, several caves and other pit falls. I have metal detected in this area several years ago, but I wasn't aware of the cache at that time. I just hope the state hasn't bought the land. Anyway, this is just an example of a weapons cache related to the civil war that has never been found. Happy THing to you.
Larry

interesting topic......

squid385,

Gold and weapons in the same cache? I would be going crazy if I had a lead like that. Good luck on your hunt, I would say let us know what you find but I can imagine you would not for practical purposes, but than again if you really want to I wouldn't mind at all, lol, best of luck to ya!

Hi Larry,
Sorry it has taken me a bit to get back to you,( have been involved with a death in the family) It sounds like you are on to something good! if not great, when you do your research, I would also check the civil war roster units to see if any who or what units had an encampment in the area.this stuff you can check within the summer months while your bitting the bit to get out there and start looking physically Rider. I hope you find what You are looking for!! keep me posted ,,Best Wishes Rob

Going forth in search of Nazi caches I began to search. Frustration very quickly set in when no caches were discovered even after an entire days searching was expended.    but there is a ray of hope, I realized few Nazi caches were to be found here in Southeastern PA even though the PA Dutch were know to live throughout my region.....    Always something to spoil your day you know.....

but the man or mans hiden a cache death, and that coins of silver and gold, become a treasure cache.

and I think we need use arsenal instruments such; PI, two box, magnetometers, cientific long range locators, resistivity survey, all this is much money, but the real find, is more better.!!!

Hi Rob,
I know the Knights of the Golden Circle, Jesse James and Morgan and his raiders both was to of buried gun caches. When I lived in New Mexico I seach for a couple of gun cashes one was a place where Jesse James was to of buried a stash of guns and the other was from Pancho Villa. I seen a old map that showed a gennal location for the Pancho guns from a old Mexican that had the TH hunting bug and we was to go out again and look but out there its a winter hunt only and he is in his 80's and he is still working so we didnt get the chance. I did have the general location of where the Confederates in their hasty retreat form a battle that didnt go very well had to bury two morters its in NM also. Right now I'm working on leads for a couple of areas that has to do with Morgan and his raiders in Ind but so far doesnt look very good. And still working on a lead for Jesse James treasure down in Tenn. Let me know if I can be of any help.
