HI Larry,
Soory for the delay in a reply, but due to a death in the family and then me getting really sick the time does fly. As to your weapons cache, it sounds as if you have done your home work.chances are that if it had been found it may have been reported. I would do a simple or advanced internet search to see if this has occured. Since you say the entrance has been sealed shut, if this was done by the confederates you have a good chance of the weapons cache still being there. Check and see who owns the property where your cache is located this can be done at your county clerks office. You may even find that the property is inactive and up for sale due to taxes not being paid, If this is true you can purchase parcals for little to nothing and then you can do whatever you please once you own it. As for a detector I would use a two box decector. but keep in mind that if indeed the weapons are there you wone need it for what you seek will be at the far end of the cave! If you need any further asstance feel free to pm me. Happy Hunting and Best Wishes ...Rob

Not only the Civil War, but the Revolutionary war and some traveling parties had to bury their rifles and weapons on more than a few occasions. Sometimes several cases of rifles were buried during the Civil War to keep them out of the enemy's hands. It surely would be nice to find such a cache--many times the guns were packed in grease of some kind. Earlier caches of guns were packed in bear grease made from bear fat.
Christian, it sounds like you know where the real good hunting grounds are. That was very interesting. Good luck on future hunts...those old Garrett Master Hunters are good for getting down deep to find relics. arent they. I've owned two older Garrett Deepseekers and they could reach down deep...but I just didn't like having to do the manual ground tuning...never did do that right. I stick to the automatic ground tuning whenever I can-ha!

Yes I've heard of this I read an article once about one in Northern Missouri. Was just trying to find the article again so far no luck. it was about a man rabbit hunting and he followed his dog into a hidden cave full of guns from the Civil War. He supposedly took one with him and the Sheriff of that county found out he had it and continued harassing him to as where he got it. Then he mysteryly dies.
Here's a link to one found in Oklahoma

I did hear that someone found a cache of civil war rifles in or near Spotsyvania co. Virginia. According to what I heard (20 yrs ago or so) the rifles were buried in a box and wrapped in cosmolene, a type of grease.. Some of the heaviest fighting was in this particular area.  John in Va

I don't know anymore about the cache of civil war guns. It was something that filtered down thru local hunters. If may have been in some of the civil war magazines.....john in Va
