Any significant finds in the San Diego area? Treasure? Historical Relics? Any good searching areas? I do hear about searching for gold in creeks or rivers. Does anyone know some good spots in the area or short commute?

Why not head up I-15 and join the Gold Prospector's Association of America? They have truckloads of information for members. I'm a life member.

They are up in Temecula, just off the freeway. A really nice bunch and dedicated to gold prospecting and treasure hunting in general.

With membership, you get a whopping big book full of gold prospecting sites that are open to members only at no extra cost. These are active, registered claims in all 50 states. The only thing you have to do is fill out a report of activity so the claim holder can use it to renew their claims every year. The owners sign a proxy to the GPAA allowing members to do the requisite improvement work on the claims.

Every claim I ever visited has given up some gold. Give them a try.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

There are abandoned shacks in the east county, in the desert.  Also, there are some areas in north county (you have to get off the main roads) that have picnicking areas that are no longer used.  You have to ask around about where the parks or picnic areas used to be.  The city parks in that county have been beat to death but you still can find a silver coin or two, with patience.
