Like you, when I started treasure hunting in San Diego, I've ask several people on where is a good place to hunt. Since you're new in San Diego, I suggest you ask Scavenger Hunt Anywhere. They can give you advises and guidelines on where to find good place to start hunting.

Temecula Valley Prospectors is a GPAA club that goes out metal detecting and prospecting. They have claims and monthly meetings and outings that are both fun and educational. Check them out on the web for more info.

I live in Hemet, which is only about 1/2 hour from Temecula. If you're looking for gems, I know where a mine is, but as far as gold goes.. I have NO idea where to find it around here. The closest place to go is about an hour away in Lytle Creek. By chance, do you know if the spanish traveled through here and buried any chaches? Thanks
