Greetings from Australia!

So many people live in Los Angeles that finding treasure shouldn't be a problem. If you're looking for a chest full of coins, gold and jewelry, forget it. Buy an empty chest and fill it with your daily finds. It won't take long before you fill it.

You have lovely beaches that get hard hit by detector users but don't despair. They always miss a lot. Get out there on a Sunday evening or early Monday morning for the best pickings. You also have several very old parks in LA that have seen the attention of lots of people over the years. Where people have congregated, they drop things and you are there to find them. Don't overlook those sand pit playgrounds, often referred to as Tot Lots. They are full of dropped items. Parents drop thing there so don't think you'll only find junk.

Old schools get torn down and rebuilt all the time. If you're lucky, you can hunt the grounds before they start tearing them down. Old coins are plentiful on old school grounds. The sidelines of sports fields are loaded with dropped items. Where temporary bleachers are wheeled out and taken away are great for coins and jewelry. Jogging paths are places where sweaty fingers lose rings and bouncing necklaces open and fall.

The median strip down the center of Colorado Blvd gets huge crowds over the Rose Bowl Parade. Many years ago, Marvin Gaye actually came out of his house there and asked me how I was doing. He used my Garrett Groundhog and thought he might like to try it more some day. Grass strips along sidewalks on the street side are great places to look and there are a bazillion miles of those in LA.

Good luck!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Welcome from New Mexico!   Great

Yep!   Where there is people, there be goodies.

Parks, Schools, Beaches, you name it.

Where do you live in LA?

Some parts require a Uniform.

Ware, Tennis shoes, Knee High Socks, Baggy Shorts and No Red or Blue Colors and all will be well! Funny

Red and Blue seems to draw attention you really don't need.

Try this

http://www.lahbc.org/members/minedumps/losangeles.html

Shows a listing of many minedumps in LA county.

Don't fear the red & blue. All the bangers went to Oakland Wink

You could also try local clubs/groups/meetups like la-rocks@yahoo or even join gpaa, etc.

Try Palos Verdes hills, head up to Calaveras county, Santa Monica mtns, OC has blackstar(beware!) also.

I'm in southern California as well. If you live near Hemet, I can tell you where to find an old mine that you can still walk into.
