Um, are you, well, being "released" from Folsom?  Cheesy

Kidding, of course.

The answer to your question regarding beaches is easy. Get a local map of Santa Cruz and take a drive on a warm Saturday morning. Wherever you can't find a place to park along the beach will be an excellent place to hunt. Also, look for concession stands for food and drink, kiddie rides or night clubs along the beach. They're always hot spots for people losing things as their attention is focused on getting to the fun rather than watching out for items they might drop.

All those places should get marked on your map so you can come back around dawn and hunt until the beaches fill up again.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
