Hi,

here a celtic arrow head, found in April 2008. It?s an late period Hallstatt time type 650-475 BC.

It?s the only one in my collection in such a good condition.

Very nice, by the time I get this posted, there may be a dozen additional congratulatory notes.

Tell me, (I presume it is bronze,) why is there a hole in the haft socket, on the one side?

I have 3 compound bows and several type of hunting heads, this looks equally as efficient as a modern arrow head.

Tell you what, Homer, if I was the guy using that high technology, and for its time, it is super tech, I would be able to tell how well the haft fit and then I would use some pitch or bitumen and let the surplus bleed out the hole - that will, also, tell me how good a job I had done.

What do you think.... likely? I know, from experience, when gluing knochs to an aluminum arrow, glue can really get around! This could help control things.

That arrow head is just a teaser! Funny

Respect  Great that?s a very good idea how the hole is made for ! I will meet an Archeologist next week and ask him. I am quite sure that he will tell me the same.

nice find,well done,love the condition,nice dark patina,looks more bronze age to me,the hole is for a pin or nail to fix it to the wooden shaft,or stick,could also be a votive offering(to the gods),did you find it near a river?most votive finds come cliffs or river banks,I found a late bronze age knife years ago next to the Isar river in south germany,and weeks later a friend found 2 amazeing large bronze arrow heads,near the same spot,,,will post a few pics of my finds soon,,
