Hi,

this is one of my favourite finds. It?s a complete middle Latene ( 300 - 100 BC ) Fibula.

The special thing of this fibula is that it is made out of iron that in this time was very  expansive. And of course the very very good condition which is not usual for iron finds.

But when the fibula was made it was....puuuhh my english.... in german it?s called "gebl?ut" that means that it was put in the fire and heated up to 300 degree celsius and then put in cold water or oil. That makes it much more resistent against oxydation.

The "gebl?ut" process is called hardening and tempering in English.
Since i?m from sweden i understand a bit of german and some words are quite similar so it?s easy to figure out.

Otherwise use the Bablefish service to translate, it works superb!

MrSimpson;

The word for "gebl?ut" is tempered.

That is an amazingly well preserved fibula, late Latin era, or not... its good

Hey! I have a little Plat Dietz and some Norwegian and can equate the rest to English, old English , Holands and Afrikaans.

MORE MORE! Devil

Can any body translate: Eenyva eedyvay eechyvay (Hint: it is in Pig Latin) Its a famous quote.

farmdigger;

Ya failed to mention "eenvay, eedvay, eechivay," is pig-latin for Hannibal's infamous quote, "Vini, vidi, vici," his home town got turned to rubble and was salted down, to boot.... bet there is lots of booty there yet, for an enterprising THer

I like the Pig-Latin site.
