How does a VLF work there or does it need a PI ??

Glad to hear some of you got a day or two of warm weather.  Beats none at all. For those where its just too cold to get out, keep a stiff upper lip (albeit frozen Grin) because soon it will be warm again and you will wonder when it's going to cool down so you can get out.

RR.  I haven't detected in NM, but in AZ a VLF with a DD coil works in the desert as well as in the  parks. I like an elliptical coil because gets into tighter spaces.  Looking to buy a 3 x 10 coil this summer.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

It's amazing how well some of the better VLF detectors work out here, even in highly mineralized soil, as long as they properly ground balanced and otherwise tuned and in the hands of an experienced user.  BUT....if you aren't patient enough to really master the detector, the PI is probably a better solution for most folks.

I tend to agree with that, as it helps one gain confidence and not be intimidated with a lot of controls. Even if depth suffers a little, not all great finds are buried deep to the point where you need a shovel. You probably won't find a large gold ring buried down more than 6 inches.
