Do you think that when detecting no one watching your every move? think again.
i was in the water yesterday.i am always in the water early when there are no people on the beach and if they are i stay as far  away from them as i can. When in the water  only my head with the headphones is visible.
I detect dressed in scuba gear, but no air tangs.i found  that with a wet suit i can stay hours in the water, detect very close to the water shore line or i can go neck deep and always have a very clear view of the bottom with a mask and snorkel.i also use a full size shovel to dig the targets.
any way there i was for about two hours flapping knee deep in the water when these two guys dressed in green uniforms with budges turned up and call me out of the water.
they where from the fisheries department.they said that they got a report of someone fishing abalone with a shovel. What the ....
they demand to show them my finds bag.It was full of lead singers and rubbish.
any way it became very obvious to them  what i was doing especially when i point to them that i was using a metal detector NOT an abalone detector, digging holes in the water its painful but not illegal and that i was providing a service to the department by cleaning the beach from the lead  that fisherman leave behind. After that they left me alone
So think again.
Don't tell me that i didn't warn you.
you been watched

It's happened to most of us, mate. I try to make friends the same way you did by showing them all of the trash and maybe some of the small change I find. Inside my wetsuit, in a mesh sock bag reside all of the jewelry and high value coins. Just so they don't take it into their head to confiscate the stuff. I always go through extraordinary efforts to return lost jewelry and comply with local laws for turning it in and then reclaiming it. But I don't want to be ordered to do so in the field. I prefer to have a paper trail.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I plan to counter this by watching THEM back! Looking for an action cam right now to wear while out detecting. It's also a good way to document your hunts especially for those of us whose memories aren't as sharp as they used to be!  Wise The only "fear" I have about this hobby is confrontation with people or authorities that may have misconceptions about what we are doing... we aren't out to "steal" your stuff or destroy your property, in fact I think MDing makes these places more attractive and safer. Getting rid of all the nasty things on the beach or in the park might help someone avoid an injury and getting rid of the rubbish also serves as a service..   Detecting

LOL!   Ge Ya Recon?

Try living 20 miles from the Mexican Border.

You Can't drive anyplace without being stopped down there.

Go to any of the Old Mine Sites, Here They Come again.

2 hours later  Here they Come Again!

I found if you offer them a Beer and a Braut they talk real nice to you.
