Do you do magnet fishing?
zul32:
I was considering going down to the hardware store and buying a recovery magnet and some rope to try it out for a (new) similar hobby to see what I could get out of some local fishing ponds. Does anyone in the forum do this? Do you make any money from it?
are any of the lures worth reselling (say on eBay or wherever)?
What do you think?
;D

Nothing to lose. However, a stuck fishing lure that broke a 10lb line will be hard to retrieve.

I don't make a serious effort at the game but I do keep a 20lb Magnet set up in the vehicle should the opportunity arise. Fishing Docks are Always good for a pair of Pliers or three. Knives and other fishing gear. Found a nice Leather-man Multi Tool one time. Everything on it was Non Magnetic S.S. except One Blade. LOL

I wouldn't think you would get a good adhesion on the magnet to the small hooks, and of course the lure is probably wood or fiberglass. The big Kastmaster type lures are brass. Like Homefire said there ought to be some neat tools laying around. Maybe a machine gun... <grin> Should be fun.

Years ago I had a permanent magnet from an old high power klystron. That was one mean magnet!

A friend's grandson dropped an inexpensive but nice fishing rig from a pier. I tried a magnet and came up with everything else BUT his rig. Later, with my hookah, I dove and found at least a dozen rigs down there, including his. I found tools, lawn chairs, an outboard motor, buckets, car wheels, anchors and a few items I dare not mention here. All fun but the magnet search wasn't the most productive method.
