Ok , I believe you !!   Shocked

Don't Worry, They Say, 100-Foot Asteroid Will Miss Us Today

Originally published on Wed March 5, 2014 8:56 am

Don't say you weren't warned.

But also don't worry, the experts say.

As we wrote last month when an asteroid measuring about 900 feet long passed near enough to Earth to generate headlines about a "close encounter," more rocks are always headed our way.

And as the schedule of what's known to be closing in shows, asteroid 2014 DX110 is due today. The 100-foot wide chunk of space rock is supposed to pass by within about 217,000 miles of our planet.

How close is that? Well, the experts at the California Institute of Technology's Jet Propulsion Laboratory point out that the "average distance between Earth and its moon is about 239,000 miles." (Don't worry, by the way, the asteroid is not on a collision path with the moon, either.)

As for the time when we should we all listen (and hopefully not hear) a big whoosh, JPL says DX110 is due to zip past around 4 p.m. ET.

Don't expect to see anything, though. Australian Eye News notes that "backyard observers are likely out of luck since the asteroid will be too dark to view directly."

I did read today the big one will be due to hit on Friday April 13th 2029 in about 15 years , they say its 1000 feet wide and heading our way ? !!

HH...............Eugene

Well, it has been heavy clouds and lots of rain here (NE Oregon) all day...  I didn't even bother to try to look.   I would just get water eyes and a wet face!

Hey, Just read some of your profile. I also am published.I wrote an article, The Fever Called Gold, for Treasure Magazine .I think it was 1980. Any way The picture that I posted  of the pan of gold was displayed on the inside as I was off a stop or two on my Photo. Had it been of better quality I would have made an extra 90 bucks on the cover. I have gotten better at my picture taking now. I also used to hang out at Glass Mountain and gather obsidian for my arrow head making. The last time I was there the rattle snakes were quite plentiful. You have some great finds.    Frank C.

Frank, who were you talking to?  Eugene, or me, or both of us?  We are both based in Oregon.

I honestly do not know who I was talking to. I just felt I had to post to some one. I'm still trying to figure out how to use this site. I had asked if any one knew of the Cliff Mine in N. MI. Some one said they did and I replied then started on one of Hunt stories. Hope I did not bore any one.  Frank C
