Go Up Go Down

Things are progressing slowly.
We got water back on a couple of days ago, but still being warned about flushing or having long showers.
Any water still has to be boiled before use.
The power has been restored for about 6 days, but again, use sparingly as they have only got temporary
repairs and another feeder cable was damaged during repairs.
The city centre is still a no go zone although most of the cordons have been reduced so people get get in to some parts to check businesses and retrieve important things and documents and PC's.
No beach detecting for a long time here, as until the sewers are repaired to 100% a lot of waste is being flushed into the rivers, so the beaches are now contaminated.
But we are still alive and getting on with what we can and businesses that were effected are slowly relocating and starting again. The outer suburbs in the west of the city which hardly suffered any damage are seeing an upturn in business, so i guess every cloud...... lol!
I just count my blessings and am thankful that no one I know was seriously injured and no matter what we go through here it can't be anything near what those poor people are suffering with in Japan  Cry
stay well.
be safe.

Cheers , JJ

Go Up Go Down

 Hello
life is weird! everything seems to be on hold for half of the city yet the other
half is full speed ahead. Out west it's life as normal (pretty much) here in the east it's a waiting game and the centre of the city is a mystery. It looks like months before the public
will be allowed to go near the city centre as they have hundreds of building to demolish or make safe. The roads are still getting patched up but as the ground compacts again and shifts there are still holes appearing. Drains getting dug up and repaired, pot holes filled, stop banks
built up and repaired....  it seems never ending. Aftershocks are continuing, had another 4.1 this morning which took out the power in a few suburbs but was restored in about half an hour, the safety devices tripped at the substation the shake was centred under. Winter is upon us but mercifully it hasn't been too wet so far but it's getting cold and there will be a lot of people with temporary heating this year as so many lost chimneys.
I haven't had a lot of energy to get out detecting, the rivers are still getting raw sewerage flushed into them and some drains onto the beaches are being used too so i don't want to dig the shore, i've visited a couple of neighbourhood playgrounds the past week, not much to show for it,lots of trash and a few cents in change. what i need is to find a nice gold ring to cheer me up LOL!
I'll have to make an effort to visit here more as you northern hemisphere people are coming out of hibernation now and will have lots of detecting tales to keep me amused through the winter.  Great
enough rambling from me.
take care, good hunting.
cheers, JJ

Pleased to see a post from you - I've noticed the aftershocks happening & always think of you when I see them. I don't think I'd be detecting near any sewage areas. Bought a pair of skellerups recently - sure well made and great to wear out relic hunting. Sue

Go Up Go Down

and another one!!!    Shocked
yesterday.

more damage, more liquefaction, fortunately no deaths this time.
me and the wife were out of town visiting our boy at university when it
happened, so were spared the immediate trauma of the shakes (a 5.5 followed by a 6.3)
but then we had to wait for the flight to get home which was frustrating, not knowing exactly
what we were getting back to.
Our house is still ok, a little bit more cracking, power was out for a while, still have no water yet.
It's amazing what we can put up with isn't it?   Crazy

Take care, be safe and hug them that's close

JJ

JJ

Hang on tight. Can't have you falling off over there.

Two things that friends of mine tell me they are sick of over there. One is the constant reminder in the form of aftershocks. The other is the constant reminder in the form of friends asking how they are.

I limit my queries. Glad you and the family are still all right.
