Has anyone tried their hand at building a metal detector from salvaged materials or even a multi meter ? Recently bought my grand children ( I have 3 ) two cheap but promising beginner detectors to test their interest. Well that covers two but instead of purchasing another store bought , I thought it would be a neat little project to help them learn how they work by building a simple one. It's a good thing I tried them before I got them involved because neither one I tried worked , LOL. I tried two different fly back transformers and a multi meter . I am inclined to believe that they just don't work or my coils are somehow wrong, Any input ???
