It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Besides, you never know when you might reenter the human habitat zone, and it will look like ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK! Grin Angry Shocked

Only when I go out to the boonies. I do not carry a concealed weapon, instead I carry a carbine rifle and keep it close by and in plain site, fully loaded with 10 rounds. My thinking is if they see I am armed they might not be so encouraged to cause me any trouble. I am fully trained in small and large arms and I am not afraid to use it, though I must say it takes a bit more courage to shoot a human than a charging mountain lion. Stay safe out there guys, obey the laws, and get that gold.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Sig 1911 in the jeep and a Glock 26 on my side. Mostly for snakes but also for the occasional tweaker. As said, better to have and not need than to need and not have. Licensed and permit to carry.

Well Danny, now we know who has the guns. With so many guns out there, are we really safe?

Hrte in good ol´germany we have very restricted laws for wearing weapons. But I think, it`s not nessecairy to "wear" any form of weapon because of N0 bears Cheesy. Yepp, we also know poisonous snakes, wulfs, racoons Shocked...but they are very, very rare and you only can see them with great portion of luck. Aigainst human threat, one has a spade or other diggin`tool on land and in the shallow water one could use the scoop against attacks. That one, who "knows a little more" can use EVERYTHING as a weapon, includinf fist, foot, knees and ellbows, also head with best success (green belt...on the way to xxx)but also a simple key, a stick /branch ...a telephone.book :-).
The best "weapon" against wild boars is :the loudest cry, you have ever shouted-believe it or not, its practiced.

Wish you a peacable and successful TH, whereever you are, Andrew

Yes, please do explain what a 'tree dog' is?!?

Thanks to all who posted... I'm loving this even more now that I realize, 1- I'm new, 2-I have a lot to learn, 3- everyone's stories have me more pumped up than my own over active imagination...

LOL! Thanks for the three vs. tree dog clarification!

 Grin

And btw I usually have either a 3" .357 or a 1911 Bobtail Commander at hand... or close to it... in or out of the field...
