Eugene52:
I want to run a Linux operating system to replace my Antique & old Windows XP.

I ran Linux on the system already in test mode and I am very impressed !!!!

What I need is a small size Linux OS download less than 500 mega bytes for a 64 bit AMD processor.

Our Thunting.com Forum here is world wide and I know there is something out there that I can burn to a bootable CD .

Any suggestions ???  Thank-you for your help Everyone !!!!

Eugene

Whar flavor of Lenix do you favor ?  I want to try it but can't run it on this Lenovo Idea Pad.  Some of the chip set is totally Windows Dependant crap.   If you like Window 10 (Most don't)  you can just down load a copy from MS.  install as normal but never register it.  It's remains fully functional with exceptions of updates and personal screens won't work. You get a little ICON lower right corner of start up screen as a reminder.  BUT IT WORKS.

GoldDigger1950:
I've been using Red Hat Linux for more than 20 years. Haven't upgraded it for probably 5 years now. In fact, haven't even turned it on in that time. I use it as a local server for developing software that I later deploy on the Internet. Most Linux distros are free, and I do mean completly free. Your choice should be based on your use. If you plan to use it as a replacement for Windows, see what browsers, e-mail clients and etc that you might use that comes inside the distro. If, like me, you are going to use it as a server on your local area network, be sure you have PHP, MySQL, Perl and other language servers in the distro. Those made for both purposes are huge so be selective based on need.

One other thing is a good issue. You don't need a powerhouse computer. Most any Intel computer will do. That means you can buy a second hand machine, wipe it clean and install Linux. Also, as an added bonus, you can actually load your boot system from a DVD or CD making your single computer a multipurpose machine that can be used as a server or desktop machine as required.

Have fun, Eugene. The journey is great fun.

Someone Gifted me two of these Wyse Rx0L thin clients a while back.  I was thinking of Ubuntu to use on them but never got around to trying. These are not wireless but nothing a $5.00 dongle wouldn't fix.   I could add a   SATA Hard Drive from my junk box to one and give this idea a go . From what I understand you can even run Ubuntu  from a Flash Drive if your not worried about how fast things get done.   Nothing to loose.  Just in a box waiting for the Some Day that never seems to get here.  LOL

I could use them as Barter Fodder on a trade.

Thank-you to Everyone.

I finally Got Linux working and installed !!!  Linux looks cool,  and not too complicated . Reminds me a little bit of Old Apple Mac PC I had years ago, but Linux is much better.
