If it hadn't been for the encouragement and support of this website, I would NOT have gone out and bought a new metal detector today........ (at least that is what I told my wife). Coloma Gold

Congratulations on the new detector, Coloma!  I told you that with the 10 franc coin you were well on your way to that new detector.  I'll take the blame for your new detector.  I don't think your wife's arm is long enough to reach out from France and hit me in Oregon! lol  Grin  So what did you buy?  Show us a picture of it.  Why did you decide to buy whatever one you did purchase?  Get out there and get swinging!   Detecting Detecting

Hi ArfieBoy,

I don't know if I got the right one but I bought a White's DFX300. One of the reasons, I heard good things about it and it has two frequencies. I heard things about the newer model V3i that seemed good (and some not so good) but it may be a little more advanced (not withstanding cost) that I was willing to go with at this stage. As you know, I am just coming back into MD'ing after a 2 yr absence. Added to this is the fact that I am not in an overly accepting environment (France) as far as MD'ing is concerned. After weighing the various factors (not sure where I can use it/if I can use it), the cost, etc., I thought it was going to be a good choice. I also have not heard a lot of bad things about this model.. Furthermore, let's face it, it is a step ahead and therefore, how bad could my choice be??!! If I find it was not the right choice, then I'll look around and buy a different one but for now I am REALLY looking forward to receiving it on friday. The development of MD's is so fast that perhaps next month they will develop one that does everything excellently. Until then, it's a great hobby!. Thanks for your question and if any thing to add to help me, let me know... Coloma Gold

You sure did make a good choice with the DFX300. I own the V3i and it is a good detector but probably not one to start with.

Best wishes,

Christian

I've been having a good time using the DFX 300 and I have been finding interesting coins dating as early as around 1620. I am now looking at buying a new camera (but not an expensive camera) with a close up feature so I can take better photos of my finds. Coloma Gold
