Go Up Go Down

Major Owen R Allred went down in about 50 feet of water 65 years ago. The bottom has alot of wrecks and silt / mud. Visibility is zero, and no divers want to go in without exact coordinates.

What is the best equipment to use for this application ?

WHO IS INTERESTED IN HELPING WITHOUT TRYING TO BANKRUPT THE ALLRED FAMILY !!

You will have to explain yourself a little better before we can help.

Are you talking about a singular drowning or a ditched aircraft? I fear there are several bodies that have found their final resting place in those waters. After 65 years, though I sympathize with your wishes of a recovery, this is probably an impossible task.

To the best of my memory Allred was some kind of WWII hero who crashed a plane in Cap Cod or the Long Island sound or some place on the east coast don't remember when. As there is no money to be made it never made it into my files so thats all I know.

Well, f40machine, your single post here shows the wisdom in lurking for a while before making your first post. You've made a legitimate request for possible salvage help but you didn't give enough details on this project nor did you present it like you might ask a friend for a favor. Think about this and then get back to us.

He went down just outside of Greenwich CT maybe more towards the longisland sound. Got snag and grab coordinates from local fisherman. Have a cage with bars from NOAA web-site wrecks.
He is in about 50- 60 feet of water with mud and silt.

Please email me at for more info

Yes he was very decorated Pilot who my fatheher wrenched for in the war, thats why I am going to find him.
Which side scan sonar would you recomend and if the plane is in the silt/ mud what kind of metal dector would work well. And there is more to life than just money, try it you might see what happens when you pay it forward !

for more info and crash articles

Don't get uppity with me home boy I have done more in my life then you will do in 10. You sure don't know how to ask for help do you o well doubt if you get much now.
And for you information people have been looking for that plane for years doubt if a guy who can't even do his own research on equipment will have much luck.

I wouldn't recommend one of those at all if the wreck is covered in silt. The silt looks like a pile of bricks to the sonar. What you need is a magnetometer, the ideal type being a proton magnetometer. First you establish the magnetic lay lines in a clear part of the search area and then you begin a cross hatching pattern search and overlay both horizontal and transverse returns to find your target. Look for a user named Willy Bayot.

People have been looking for it for years good, provide me with info so I can succeed in this mission and bring closure to the Allred family. They are un ware of any search done by any one other than the what was done in 1947.
