Is there a jeweler in the forum to clear the confusion?
Until now I was under the impression a 925 marking meant that the peace was sterling silver.
On the photo are two of this week’s finds. A chain and a small pendant.
You can clearly see the 925 stamp on them.
BUT the chain stick to a magnet and the pendant looking brassy on the loop.
Any thoughts?

Is this chain stick to a magnet along the entire length? Perhaps the magnet reacts to the spring in the clasp. Still possible content of cobalt in the ligature or it's just silver plated of another metal.

I'd bet one of two things happened here. Either the chain itself broke and was not repairable so the owner replaced it with some old chain that was plated. Or, the chain was replaced by someone who wanted the scrap silver for cash. Either way, the magnet would stick only to steel or nickel. So it's probably nickel plated brass with a heavy plating. Nickel coated brass is often called German Silver.

You've been victimized, nickel_n. You should ask for a refund.

I got an other one of those 925 silver marked Non silver items.
This is a hart made of copper plated silver and marked 925 by Tiffany & co.
You can clearly see the copper on the left hand site.
Tiffany is a big company I would never think that they are selling silver plated items marked as silver.
It must be a way of marking, but I can't find any info on the web.
Does any one know more on how silver plated items are marked and how you can identify them?

You can buy 925 14k 10k stamps from any jewelery supply house for for 15 bucks are less. Its getting common for conman to use them to fool the mark.
