A fellow worked for the U.S. military in Germany and would go relic hunting every weekend, mostly on the battlefields of the 1870's. He had a marvelous collection of dug artifacts. He would move through the woods in all metal mode. If he got a signal he would wham down with his army shovel to remove a few iinches of soil. If the signal was moved by the first shovel he wouldn't bother digging further, just continue shuffling along until he got something that was deeper.
Once he got a big signal that proved to be deeeeep. After many hours of digging he found the outlines of a metal safe that someone had buried. With heart beating rapidly in anticipation of a safe full of something great he got the safe hoisted to the top.
Upon prying the door open he found the disappointing contents: the remains of a dog.
With a disapointed heart he returned the safe and dog to its grave and covered the hole.
