Hello,

well it will depend on the material of coins:

Gold doesn't need to be cleaned
For Silver use lemon juice but don't forget to neutralize it afterwards e.g. using fluid soap / water
For copper best don't clean

Also make sure to nver use toothpaste or any other abrasive material.

Regards,

Christian

I am presently trying to clean a bunch of dirty memorial cents by soaking them in mineral oil. I read about this method in another forum. I don't know how it is going to work but the guy who posted it said he found out about it from a coin dealer. I will post my results in a few days.

Just tried something that someone told me, and it works. After putting your coins in lemon juice and scrubbing them with tooth paste, use an eraser on a pencil and it will shine up that silver, give it a try it amazed me!

I forgot to follow up on my above post as far as my attempt to clean the Memorial cents with mineral oil. That was a total failure. I left them in mineral oil for two weeks and absolutely nothing happened. The only thing that happened was they were so slick I could hardly hold them. I attempted to wipe them with baby wipes as instructed and that was a total disaster. It would have taken me six months to clean them at the rate I was going, and my hands were numb from holding coins and wiping them. I also tried the vinegar and baking soda formula to no avail. All I got was a bunch of fizzy solution that did nothing. Oh well, I'll keep on searching.
