Hi there you all! I'm cleaning some clad with a sort of home made tumbler. A friend gave me the base with the motor, shafts ect.
It's a Thumlers Tumbler brand, He threw the rubber barrells away because they were so old the rubber was hard and slick, wouldn't
get any traction. So I thought about this for a while and came up with a plastic Foldgers coffee can for the drum, I knew it would need some kind of rubber so first I bought some large rubber bands from Office Depot-$2.50. I put my coins in along with some plain aquairium rocks,
a hand full of Folgers coffee, couple of tbl spoons of baking soda, and about 2 drops of ajax lemon dish soap. Then I put the rubber bands on
the 2 highest ridges on the can and set it on the shafts and turned it on. The rubber bands just kind of worked their way off in no time.
I thought what I really need is a tire inner tube to fit the coffee can, probrabally like the size of a motorcycle tire. how ever I didn't want to put the bucks up for a new one , didn't know any body that might have a used one. So one day while at the grocerie store I saw some latex gloves for just a buck, why not? Well I put one glove on the can with the fingers stickin' out and put it on the shafts and pluged it in.
The results were, it immediately wore a whole through the thin latex. Last night I was telling my friend who gave me the tumbler base
about my delima, he looked at me with a big grinn and said, so instead of driving around wasting gas looking for a used innertube, why don't ya just go down to tractor supply and buy a new one for 5 bucks? I said you mean like a lawn mower inner tube? Yes what ever
they have that will fit your coffee can. so off I went I found 3 different sizes and picked the smaller one for $5.99. I took it home cut it in
strips about an inch and a half wide. they are actually really tight, but I put one on the bottom of the can and one on the top. The one on top actually helps hold the top on. It works! It ran about 4 hrs last night and I plugged it in this morning and is still tumbling along.
Now I'm just wondering if anybody has a good recepie for the tumbler mix other than the one I stated above? I think I got it at a club meeting over in Wagner Oklahoma. Not sure If I got the right combination but I guess I'll find out.
