I live in La Crosse Area.  I would be interested.  There is some bar in Alma that is quite notorious for metal detecting aficionados.  The bar is mentioned in the Great River Road Guidebook.  Anyway, I'd be interested in a club.  I have contacted the Mississippi Valley Conservancy several times, trying to determine if metal detecting is allowed on their land.  No response.  You can pick mushrooms and gather other things.  But I don't want to try it until I get an okay.  Right now, I stick to roads and side walks that have been removed.  But I would like to try something better.  In Michigan, State Parks have designated areas for metal detecting.  I wish WI and MN had the same.  I hate feeling like a criminal waiting for the police to tap me on the shoulder for metal detecting!

I know the feeling.
I do have miners licenses and I don’t need a permit detecting for coins, but …….
That’s why i do most of my detecting on the beach, or in the water.
All my detecting activity gets washed out after the tide change.
