Go Up Go Down

Just yesterday I read a chapter on Cocos Island in one of my treasure hunting books. I wondered if anyone knows what the recent situation in obating a salvage permit is? How much does it cost and how long will it last? Also is it still not possible to spend the night on the island? Also does anyone know when the last treasure hunting expedition had been performed and by whom?

Best wishes,

Christian

AU Law

I could not find any straight forward information. Looks like you need either a navy or a team of lawyers. Most of the Islands are of questionable ownership. Flagged by Great Britain and than turned over the Australia.

If you had a navy and planted a flag it would be yours I guess. Grin

Good idea- I know where we can obtain the use of a ten foot john boat. Grin He won't charge anything up front for it. Just a cut of the treasure. Grin

Go Up Go Down

Hi,
Ok this is my first post on the forum so i hope it will be of some help. I believe Christian was refuring to the Cocos Islands of the West coast of Costa Rica , not the Cocos- Keeling Island off the North-West coast of Australia. Easy Mistake to make.

Now Christian, from what I have found, it is a National Park, and has been designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

As for visiting and staying the only persons allowed to live on Cocos Island are Costa Rican Park Rangers. Tourists are allowed ashore only with permission of island rangers, and are not permitted to camp, stay overnight or collect any flora, fauna or minerals from the island.

I hoped this has helped in someway.

Cheers

As of 2009 There are 2 groups of dedicated Cocos treasure resaerchers who have oposing theories. Both plan a book and documentary. Treasure hunting on Cocos Island has been a thing of the past because the Island for last couple of years a national park.
