Going through a box of Half dollars last night, I found a Choice BU 2000S Kennedy Half.  I also found a 1974 Blank Planchett Kennedy Half with no edge.  Completely smoothe.

I've read many posts about CRH'ing, but how does one go about getting boxes? Just go into your bank and buy them??, or should you ask for any specific types of coins?

Todd

Out of curiosity, how can you tell a blank planchette has a date of 1974?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

i dont know if everyone does it the same way, but i just go to the bank and ask for rolls of halves.. sometimes they have them and sometimes not.  it helps if you know a teller or if you do your banking at a smaller bank, they will usually order something specific for you the next time they call in for change.  i used to get them to hold ike dollars for me when people cashed them in...  a lot of times all you have to do is ask nicely for specific stuff, and it doesnt hurt to show an example of what your looking for..   hope this helps..

Nice finds- there's a lot of people do cr hunting, collectors and all.
My wife just retired from 25 yr of banking, and she saw many cr hunters, most were very nice people, BUT, like everywhere else, had some real COOOKS, that would almost mess it up for the good guys, when you do the CR hunting be nice say please and thank you, those bank tellers like that. Wise Wise Wise

I bought, I believe, about $300 dollars worth of rolls of halves from the bank a couple of years back. Got nothing and thought it wasn't much fun, having to get rid of them all. I could have just taken them back rerolled, but felt awkward about it at the time. Don't think I should have felt bad.

My wife and I now buy a $500 box of halves every 2 weeks now. I've never been skunked but I don't always find silver.  I tend to find more double strikes and blank planchettes than I ever thought possible.  Those bring a lot more than silver with an average value of $50.

My buddy that found a pile of silver his first time out hasn't found any since.  He has piled up a nice collection of goof coins.   Detecting

What do you do with the left overs re-roll them? Does bank give you a hassle taking them back? I was wondering I thought about doing rolls of pennies.Foiled Again

I am not into coin rolling but I got a friend who set's aside hand rolls that customer's bring in for me. I have found some silver and loads of Wheaties and buffalo's.
As for turning them in re roll or spend them. But I see that the coin machines that charge 7 or 8 percent now will do it for free if you turn it into a gift card, I dumped 40 bucks worth yesterday and got a Home Depot card. Trust me I will use it.
