Errors are a very specialized field.
I look through my coin book but there was nothing there.
Perhaps you can post the photo on a coin collecting forum

Take it to a coin dealer and get your evaluation but here are my thoughts, for what they're worth. Two things come to mind regarding this coin.

The orientation of your faint image is incorrect for it to be a heavy struck coin.
Any error must be absolutely visible to the naked eye for it to have value.

Your coin dealer can tell you for certain. Whatever you do, don't even think of taking it to the mint. In Perth, a friend had a gold coin confiscated that had an error on it when he took it to the mint for evaluation. Apparently, the Australian government considers all mint errors to be counterfeit in nature and use that policy to grab and keep error coins when they are on the mint grounds.

Thanks for the advice. You can see the error without the aid of anything. I thought about the orientation as well, but it is close enough to make me stop and wonder. As for taking anything to the mint......HELL NO.....especially not a gold coin.

It is a bronze....the only gold I have is in my teef! I contacted a couple of the dealers in Melbourne. Only one responded and said that the example i have is quite common and not worth anything more than melt/ face value. Kind of anti-climatic.....so I will hold on to it for another few years.
