You should be able to find out by putting the date and coin information into both Google and eBay. Close, anyway.

It doesn't look quite right ?
The marks suggest it came from a ring ?

The weight is right for a Sovereign so assuming it is 22ct gold - scrap value of £236 GBP or $378 US at todays prices

You may be right that it was mounted in a ring at one time, or a medallion. The for nicks in the edge look like they could be from prongs.

Thanks guys.

Next time I will check google before asking silly questions.

It is a sovereign.
Yes, it has those marks, probably a ring or medallion.

And yes, looks like its price is about $400

thx

Next time I will check google before asking silly questions.

Learning to search is a basic requirement. I didn't mean for you to feel bad about not doing it. I just pointed out one solution for you. Now, it's in your memory bank of research tools. Just remember one very important thing. Research on the Internet is ALWAYS to be treated as yielding suspect information. Always do more using what we call primary sources. The Internet, no matter how you find information, is always a secondary source at best. More than likely it is 5th or 6th away from primary.

What I mean is this. This forum and the things we discuss are recorded and broadcast to Google and the other search engines on a second by second basis. As soon as I press the "Send" button, this is on Google and available for people to read. If someone comes along and likes what I write here, the often copy it or at least point to this post. Thus, their doing so creates a secondary source - once removed from my primary source. Future searchers may copy THAT result and so on. Some may offer their own tidbits of what they believe to be factual information but actually has no basis in fact. The end result is that you should ALWAYS check any so called facts you find on the Internet by checking with primary sources.

In your case with this coin, a primary source is a coin dealer who can assess the coin to determine if it is genuine and then work from there based on condition, etc. You always have the intrinsic value - that of the gold itself.

So, onward! Keep these things in mind when you ask a question here. Or before you ask. I hope this helps you with future research.
