Take a look at this picture. I  tried to get as good of an image that I could scan. I appears that this one may have slipped by inspection?? It appears that the blank round (possibly) before it was stamped got 'scored' just inside the outer edge!  Smiley

Take a look, it's consistent throughout most of  the coin (between the lettering and year stamp on it).

What do you think? Is this a rarity?

I see what you mean. Think you need to let others have a look I am not a coin guy. We got a new member krazycoinlady  I think is her name that has a coin shop she may be able to help. I need to find her myself think I upset her telling her I sold all my silver coins to a jeweler to melt down, need to tell her I was pulling her leg.

LOL that's a great story! By the way, melting down US legal tender (coins) is illegal too. They passed a law about that a while ago, when the copper penny became more valuable as copper from what I read.

Zul, that looks to me like a heavy strike, not a scoring. It happens a lot on the smaller coins like dimes, a bit less on quarters and even less on half dollars. It's unusual, but not a rarity. Call a coin shop and verify.

It's all about that magical moment of discovery when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
