I was very surpised when I found this coin . First of all the condition it was in and secondly the history behind it .  I wondered about the name ITA . came to find out that ITA was a sub-commander in the fleet of  Pieter Heyn , the man that took the whole silver fleet in the bay of Matanzas  in Cuba .  Pieter Heyn was the only Admiral that ever took a Spanish treasure fleet . As his second in command ITA had his share in the battle . Part of the silver taken from the Spanish was used to be coined . This  6 stuiver ( 6 nickle ) coin was part of that coinage . Needless to say that it is my favorate coin .  Cornelius

Dear Cornelius,

it is very nice to hear a story surrounding a coin! Where and when did you find it?

Best wishes,

Christian

Yes Outback it is a sweet coin , but not because of the silver content . The amount of silver is not worth mentioning . It is the history behind the coin that I was able to detect . History is worth more to me than monitary value . I enjoy history above any monitary value because it is history I enjoy now , while the money will go to my kids .  Regards Cornelius

What a great find.  Really like the history behind it as well.  Congrats on that find as well as finding the history behind the coin.
