can any one tell me some tips on how to go about cleaning my coins without damaging them
 
vinegar not work very well tin foil scrunched up works well but has any one got any more tips

In general, don't clean your coins.
Collectors hate cleaned coins and it reduces there value.
If you've found the coin detecting and it's crusty then the best options and electrolysis or an ultrasonic cleaner.

If you think or have a hint the coin is of value, DO NOT CLEAN it.  Silver and Aluminum foil and baking soda works good and no Damage incurred.   Ferric Chloride works on coins of no value and you want to just see them better.  A 3 minute bath 1% and rinsed out boiling water can help them.  Copper coins can be cleaned up from the Green and Gick with Olive Oil but it takes a Long time.   Month or two.   Not sure how that one works but it does.   Some type of acid or Alkali that does the job.  I think Alkali.
