you guys did such a great job identifying that token i thought i would give you another that has puzzled me. hope the picture is ok. the reverse side is so scratched it is not inteligible. the coin is silver and shows a bird clutching a plant above a shield, and it appears to have a year stamped below the shield. this fact makes it differ from all the pictures in my red book 2004 edition. it is slightly smaller than and thinner than a clad dime and has a ribbed edge. any thoughts or is this too easy? once again i have used the photo resizer thanks, pj

I found this interesting.  Maybe our Yammi friends would like to know about.   During the opening months of the Pacific War, The Philippines was overrun by Japanese Army units in a series of painful and costly withdrawals by the combined American and Filipino forces. To prevent their capture, more than 15 million pesos in silver coins were removed from the Treasury at Manila, hastily boxed, then dumped into Caballo Bay, an inlet of the greater Manila Bay. Learning this, the Japanese captors used forced labor to retrieve a small portion, but the bulk of the silver was raised after the war by U. S. Navy divers and contractors.

wow, that looks to be exactly right. too bad the obverse side is so toasted. the date looks like 1907 to me but hard to tell. they dont have an image on that site for that year.  this is the most scratched coin ive ever found. great attached explaination also. thanks homefire, pj

As Obscure and Weird the coin is the messed up condition may still hold a premium over Melt.  In the UK all older coins the back side is scrubbed off.  They was afraid to put the coins Face down to Insult the King.

maybe this one is in as good condition as many of its kind if most of them were dumped in salt water for a year or two. at least its identifiable. probably the most valuable coin ive found thus far is worth a hundred times its original face value. unfortunately, its a wheat back penny in a rare year. i will try to find where i filed it or which treasure box its hiding in and post it. btw, tossing your finds in a cardboard box and leaving them on a shelf not a good idea. one of my detecting buds has been active since they invented detectors i think. he had a whole box of silver and gold rings at his house on a shelf. a meth head lady broke in and stole them. they caught her but by then they had been sold for scrap.pj

My grand mother lost a 1 gal jar of Silver Quarters and Halves the same way.  I was to receive them on my 18th birthday.
