Guys & Gals.......if one drops a coin dated 1832 into a bed where a railroad's set of tracks was laid, it is extremely good odds, the rails weren't laid in 1831

I was funnin'...and I hate to explain my jokes.  Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Wow Dr.D, great find there and a nice little story to go with it to boot. Just goes to prove that being observant plays a big part in this game. Cool If you guys see some construction going on, pretty well anywhere, get in there asap! I hope this topic has turned on a few more members to get down to the tracks some time this spring and see what YOU can find. I've got some squashed pennies and a well flattened mordern day quarter to show that eyeballing even works on RR areas close to the road crossings. As long as you  don't get your coil too close to the actual steel tracks, you could do very well, at least with slugs that used to be coins. Grin Seriously though, out of the mainstream places like this, are overlooked by probably 70-80 % of detectorists. As Dr.D has now proven, stuff can sit there a long time waitin' for a smart cookie like yourself perhaps, to score it. Cool

Thanx fer sharin' dude!
