Mint planning million-dollar loonie

Tim Naumetz, CanWest News Service; Ottawa Citizen
Published: Wednesday, February 07, 2007

OTTAWA - In a move some see as downright loonie, the federal cabinet has authorized the Royal Canadian Mint to produce $1 million gold coins for collectors with deep pockets.

. . . .if the once-bustling gold mines near Yellowknife were still at peak production, it would take a week for them to produce enough gold to make just one of the coins.

Bevington joked at the estimated 1,200 ounces (34 kilograms) of gold it would take to produce the coin if the mint establishes the same level of purity it has for the Gold Maple Leaf.

"You don't want it to roll out of your pocket when you sit down, do you?" he said.

 Smiley WoW! Now THAT's a real passle of rich placer and as you say, totally inspirational to boot! Thanx fer sharing YellowChick... Wink

Hey there sweet little Sue, Why oh why would our government want to make coins only for the really rich and still not help the poor, old or average people out there that NEED some kind of intelligent plan for a change. And, then they say the penny costs too much to make etc etc etc. Sad  Like who could even lift a friggin' coin that weighs about 75 pounds? Huh?

Have a good one SS!

Here's what $2,000,000 in gold by some non-loonies looks like for comparison purposes at today's $659 gold price p/t/o...

{alt}

I have this plastered all over the rooms in my house...yes, even the powder room.

I find it plumb inspirin'....

BTW...it was taken by a highly regarded acquaintance of mine who is known as SI-NM on the net, and Bill Anderson to his family.  If memory serves, he was a refiner in the alaska goldfields back several years ago.  You should see the loaf of bread sized bars this guy could cook in the field from out of regular washtubs of this placer.

Yellow Chick, checked your website, got some cool stuff Wink

Makes no cents to me - almost seems the more ridiculous, the better with our mints.  Enjoyed reading your backwoods past - I was raised on a farm where basic living skills were a part of everyday life.
