Here are some of my attempts to re-create ancient "hammered" coins Just for fun remember.
I could only find one half of the die but you will get the idea,
I made the dies using a "dremmel" and some very small chisels.

You could always make an invading "horde" of lead soldiers!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Johnn, clever...Since I've been metal detecting I've saved all my lead and I have been wondering what to do with it. Now I know. I saw a special on history channel and they were re-creating hammered coins. One guy stood by with a ladle of molten metal and poured drops of it into a mold. After it cooled a little, the other put the top die on it and hit it with the hammer.....I don't think all hammered coins were made that way. I recall seeing some that were so irregular in shape it looked like they were stamped from a slug cut off of a plate or bar. gambol

Hi Gambol1,
You know I do beleive I saw that prog too. When I lived in England I made some dies there for our club to raise funds for a charity at fairs and outdoor events this was very popular with everyone and made resonable funds BUT!! we realised that children were taking home these lead discs so abandoned the idea...HH...Johnnn

Good point Johnnn, When I was a kid I cast lead cars and painted them with what probably was lead paint. No one thought much about it. Today we live in a different world. Gambol

Hi Jim R,
If I can find the other half of the die I will re-visit this subject, our hobby is expandable to other things just by finding lead I have fun during the winter with this stuff.........HH..........Johnnn

Johnnn, When I was a very young man I worked in a foundry briefly. Since then I have been facinated with sandcasting. A few months ago I made a Sand casting mold but I havn't had time to try it out. I think the first thing I will try is a toy cannon using the lead I have collected.
