The archaeological evidence you just unearthed indicates that in 1697, someone had a hole in his pocket at the beach. You should write that up!

Hi, where the coin was found is a strong coastal occupation area from the 15th century onwards, so to find a coin from the 17th century is not that unusual, we are just lucky in the UK to have such history.

Here in Australia the occupation by metal using populations is less than 300 years in most places. The only time we can expect to find an ancient coin is when someone drops one that they've carried as a keepsake. We Antipodean detectorists envy your history sometimes.

If your ever in the UK GoldDigger1950, and in my area North Norfolk, I would gladly take you out metal detecting, I love our hobby and I realize the importance of recording our history, but at the end of the day Im a treasure hunter and this is what drives me. Take Care Craftyboy (Jeff)

I'd absolutely love to return to the UK for some treasure hunting. The last time I did that was in the early 1970s. Then, it was without the knowledge I have today of techniques and research methods. I'm a bit creakier around the joints and probably a bit slower than I was then but the enthusiasm I have has never once faded. I love this hobby!

That's a far cry better than the 2 clad dimes, one clad quarter and 6 Memorial cents that I found at the beach volleyball court over the weekend. Great find!

A very worthwhile find. You can hold it in your hand, close your eyes and let your mind wander back in time. Where did it come from, who lost it, what tales could it tell........
