I agree with you Mike.  Sometimes it's just cool to wonder 'who else held this piece in their hand??'....

you Brits do have amazing history buried in your ground - great coin and in the wet sand is awesome.  here in the US like in Aust finding a coin in the 1700's is an amazing find - over there, in your plowed fields, theres stuff from the Celtic and Roman era...WOW...
that's why I'm spending $2500 to do a week in Colchester from March 12-19 - I'm looking for Celtic gold!!!

great find.  its neat when the money has markings to let you know how old and who made it.
in calif. i was lucky to find some money from the 1700's i thought it was buttons turns out it was indian money made out of sea shells. found them plowing a field.
again great find Smiley

Craftboy, if you really want to find something good get yourself a pair of chest waders if you cant afford a good wet dry suit and wade around in the shallows at low tide thats where you will find the good stuff including gold rings.
make yourself a sccop too or whatever you try to dig up will fall back in the hole that your trying to get the article out of.
You found that close to the low water mark what will you find if you venture in.  just go in as far as your knees and waist to start with let everyone know if you tried it and what your finds are.  seek and you will find. Good luck alan

did you know craftboy that even if you get some plastic wet weather gear and trousers and put them over a pair of wellies you can still search in shallow water because the water pressure creates a seal between the trousers and your wellies thats an old trick.
have fun and good luck  alan
