Hello everyone. I found a 1953 20 Franc coin in the back of my junk drawer while cleaning the other day. The coin is gold in color and has a Rooster on the back, and is in excellent condition.  Does anyone know if they still make this same coin today, and could anybody give me a guesstimated value on this coin? Frank T.

Hello !

This coin, 20 'old" francs, became worthless in 1960 when the "new" francs came on the scene.

In the mean time, francs are replaced by our euro...

This coin has an average value of $3.75.

Beachcomber,Thank you for the info. This coin struck me as being really beautifull, and in really good shape. The lady on the front of the coin, who is she? On the one I have you can see the strands of her hair, and details in the flower in her hair. (excellent condition)Even though this coin is not worth a whole lot I like the looks of it and will keep it. Frank T.

Hello Frank !

The lady on the coin is Marianne, the allegoric (and revolutionnary) symbol of France.

On the coins, at the time, Marianne showed always the same face.

For other representations, like bust statues for administrations, some well known french women were pictured, like Brigitte Bardot, Mireille Mathieu, and so on.
